An ATV is designed to cruise over difficult terrain with ease, which makes it an asset for hunting enthusiasts. You'll be able to head over tough terrain to reach that ideal hunting spot. It'll also make it easier to drag your trophy back to your truck. It's no wonder so many four wheeler enthusiasts use their powersports vehicle to go hunting!

Before you head out on your ATV hunting trip, you'll want to set yourself up for success. Check out the following guide on quad hunting tips. Visit America's Motor Sports Dickson for all your powersport needs. We proudly serve those in Dickson, Clarksville, and Columbia, Tennessee.

Find the Ideal Location

One great perk of a four wheeler is its ability to travel difficult terrain faster and easier than you can on foot. Use this feature to find your ideal hunting spot and set up somewhere where your game is likely to be found. Many hunters will take their quad out before the season gets started. After all, finding the perfect spot is a time-consuming process (but it'll make a big difference in the success of your trip!)

Think about where your prey is likely to be found. See if you can uncover their paths of movement by seeking out deer paths and trails. Go to where their food source is and set up nearby. For example, large prey like elk, deer, and moose will head to places full of vegetation. Make sure your site puts you downwind. Otherwise, the animals could smell you and flee. Use your ATV to scope out the area and pinpoint the ideal spot.

Bring Helpful Gear

You'll need the basics for hunting and ATV riding, such as your weapon and a mini toolkit in case your quad runs into minor mechanical issues. But you can also bring gear that'll help improve your trip.

First, you'll want to protect your weapon. If it gets damaged from the ride or the weather, it'll throw a huge wrench in your hunting trip. A rifle scabbard protects the gun and its scope through all parts of the journey, from riding in the four wheeler to sitting in your site as you dress the animal.

Second, you'll want a way to transport your game to flat land. It's much easier to break down an animal on flat land than a sloped one. A winch gets connected to your quad for easy transportation of the animal.

Third, you'll want a way to navigate throughout the woods. After all, you don't have road signs or easily identifiable landmarks like you do driving in the city. Your phone GPS may not always have service. A four wheeler GPS is the way to go. You'll have no problem finding your way home (and it can be used to mark a successful hunting spot for future trips).

Be Mindful of Daylight

It's tempting to stay out until the sun sets. You want to give yourself every chance possible to get your game after all! But riding in the dark is dangerous. It's much harder to see obstacles, from a lurking pothole to an animal darting out into your path. It's all too easy to incur damage on your quad (or yourself). Plan your trip so that you'll be riding your ATV back to your truck with plenty of light.
